The Roots Cover Monsters of Folk to make “Dear God 2.0″

Check out The Roots covering Monsters of Folk’s “Dear God” to make “Dear God 2.0“.

“Dear God” was a slow-burning highlight from the self-titled 2009 LP from Monsters of Folk (aka Bright Eyes’ Conor Oberst, My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, M. Ward, and Mike Mogis). “Dear God 2.0″ is a slow-burning remake of the track by the Roots that will be included on their forthcoming LP, How I Got Over. James’ lofty vocals are consistent but the beat is overhauled and a couple characteristically wary verses from Roots rapper Black Thought are added. According to a press release, Oberst, Mogis, and Ward also contributed to the revamp.

How I Got Over– which features guest shots from Joanna Newsom, members of Dirty Projectors, John Legend, and others– is out June 22 on Def Jam

Phoenix = Genius… enough said

After being asked by Grizzly Bear to remix them, Phoenix came up with this brilliant and alternative way to remix.  Check it out here.  The brilliance, you ask?  Oh, I don’t know, that the user gets to actually do the remix! They’ve just given you two songs that make perfect sense and you can’t mess up.  Love it!

“A long time ago Grizzly Bear asked us to remix one of their tracks, but we never found the boldness to mess with their beautiful songs. So the other day we figured, maybe if we combine great things together (Grizzly Bear, Eno, chance), it would create something good.”

Thanks Phoenix for allowing me to be a part of the process.

Cherry Bomb by The Runaways (Actors)

Look at Dakota Fanning all grown up! You be the judge on if she pulls off Cherie Currie. And it seems as though people are referring to Kristen Stewart as K Stew now. Really? We’re so lazy we can’t say Kristen? I’m looking forward to seeing the movie, though. Since it’s been consulted on by the originals, you have to believe that it will remain somewhat faithful to the true story……but then again, it’s Hollywood.

The Genius that is Jamie Lidell

Sure, we share the same name, but that’s not why I have an affinity for Mr. Lidell.  I love him because he’s a musical genius and he encompasses all that you could want in an artist….great music, fantastic lyrics, and amazing live shows (the triple threat of music).  Check out the video below to look through a window into the recording process of his upcoming release Compass out on May 20th on Warp Records.  Oh, and if you weren’t already going out to buy this record on the day of release, maybe the contributions by Feist and Beck will entice you!
