Woohoo!! New Elbow! We’re VERY excited about the new Elbow out today. Everything I have heard has been superb, I hope the rest of the album holds up. I’m also looking forward to the releases from Flight of the Conchords and Tokyo Police Club. And you can’t miss with Billy Bragg and The Doors.
CD Releases:
In your frantic tax mailing frenzy, stop by and pick up one of these lovely new releases to keep you happy on this day of terror. Joseph Arthur’s vocals will surely soothe your soul along with the music from Air. On the flip side, The Gossip will perfectly express your anxiety and frenetic energy with some serious attitude.
It’s true. Prince has now been added to the Coachella line up for Saturday April 26. Honestly I was always a believer in Goldenvoice coming through in the end with an “I can’t miss this” headliner. One-day tickets are sold out , but I’m sure there are a bunch floating around the old Craigslist boards. Touche Goldenvoice…. Touche.
Now who has a Saturday ticket they want to sell me?
Some of Saturdays other must see artists include: Rilo Kiley, MIA, Hot Chip, Death Cab For Cutie, Cold War Kids, Animal Collective, Kate Nash, Devotchka, Stephen Malkmus, Islands, Man Man, and MGMT
Woohoo! New Tapes ‘N Tapes out today. But don’t be too focused on their release and overlook the new ones out by some really great groups/ artists….The Breeders, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Colin Meloy, Man Man, Cut Copy just to name a few.

Watched all the music documentaries on your Netflix cue? Shed no tears as it’s time for the AFI Music Documentary Series. Whoo hooo.
AFI’S MUSIC DOCUMENTARY SERIES returns to ArcLight for a seventh season to celebrate the power of music, showcasing documentaries that go back stage, on tour, behind the scenes and any other place that rocks.
I am seriously looking forward to catching the documentary Young @ Heart( watch the trailer here), which is about a chorus of people in their 80’s singing songs by Coldplay, The Ramones, and Talking Heads to name a few. Just watching this performance of Coldplay’s “Fix You”, sounds so different sung by an ailing elder. Almost more meaningful as alot of things can be when coming from the mouth of someone older and wiser. I honestly hope I am in a choir like this when I am 80.
Young @ Heart - “Fix You” ( caution: tears might actually stream down your face watching this clip)
Apparantly there is a limited release on April 18th.
This Just In: Young @ Heart have also backed David Byrne on his song “One Fine Day”. Soon they will be on a bill with Vampire Weekend and Arcade Fire.
R.E.M. has their new one out today, but there are some other goodies in stores as well…. Annuals EP, The Apples in Stereo, The Black Keys, Los Campesinos!, and French Kicks (iTunes only).
It’s true kids. Tom Petty + Troubadour = Mudcrutch. Yeah, exactly what I thought…huh? In my head it reads as Mudcrotch. Aye. Anyway. Unless you are a hardcore Tom Petty fan you might not know that his previous band, before The Heartbreakers, was Mudcrutch. They are reuniting and hitting the old Troub April 24-29. Tickets onsale April 4. You know I’ve already marked it in my calendar.
Thanks to the awesome Losanjealous for the heads up.
According to Mr. Petty’s website Mudcrutch’s first album will be released April 29.
“I just finished a record with Mudcrutch, my old band before the Heartbreakers,” Petty wrote in a message posted on his website. “I am over the moon about it. I couldn’t have hoped for it to be as good as it came out.”
Other Mudcrutch Tour Dates:

April 14 - Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium, Santa Cruz, CA
April 16 - Fillmore, San Francisco, CA

To ward off that Petty fever you might have with the anticipation of seeing him live, why not check out the new-ish doc on the band. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers: Runnin’ Down a Dream. You can find it used on Amazon. Peter Bogdanovich’s Runnin’ Down A Dream
